Alpine Trekking Guide Experience Requirements
- Hard Ice Guide Assessment Course.
- Two seasons work on the lower glacier.
- 100 days guiding on the lower level hard ice areas of glaciers (including the 30 days prerequisite for HIG Guide Assessment) under the supervision of an NZMGA HIG or Climbing Guide or IFMGA Guide. A written record or logbook must be presented on application.
- Five days ice climbing instruction as part of the 100 days.
- Two days guided climb of either the direct route from Chancellor Hut to Chancellor Dome and return, or the standard route on Mt Moltke from Castle Rocks Hut and return as part of the 100 days. The first day is training and the second day is guiding and under the direct supervision and training of an IFMGA Guide or NZMGA ATG or Climbing Guide.
- 20 days personal mountaineering experience including trips on névés and climbs to Logans grade 2 .
