GUIDE TRAINING : MOUNTAIN SKILLS COURSE

Click on the boxes for more information

This course is a prerequisite for entry into the Ski Guides Programme or Glacier Guides final assessment.

It teaches the basic technical climbing and rope skills necessary for ski or glacier guiding and gives participants an idea of professional standards. The Ski Guides Programme and Glacier Guides Course do not train but only assess for these skills.

Participants are expected to have some knowledge of the techniques to be covered at the beginning of the course. Training will be given to participants where improvement is needed to bring their skills up to the required level. Some training will be given in basic roped guiding techniques.

Assessment will be continuous. Assessors will recommend at the end of the course whether the participant is of a sufficient standard to go onto a Ski Guide Level 1 or Glacier Guides Course. This is based on the Marking schedule and the requirements of Pass mark and course report.

Please note that this course DOES NOT qualify you to guide. It is a prerequisite for entry into the NZMGA Ski Guide programme or Glacier Guide assessment course and can be used as training for the NZMGA Climbing Guide 1 Course if a participant so wishes.
